Questions to Ask When Considering a New EMR or EVV Vendor

While functionality and usability is important, it’s critical to also have knowledgeable and responsive support. With timely filing limits being a very real threat to revenue, providers need a vendor who will help them get paid.

Key Takeaways:

  • Support is critical to home health operations. When your EVV data isn’t transmitting or is getting rejected, this can impact your revenue. Make sure your vendor is willing to show up when you need them.

  • Ask potential vendors for references from current providers in your state. Each state has their own program requirements, so it’s important the vendor has experience where you are.

CMS

What’s Changing: CMS announced that it would no longer approve funding for some services previously covered by the state Section 1115 demonstrations, including some in-home non-medical services.

Impact on Providers:
People who receive services through Section 1115 waivers overlap significantly with the population of people receiving home and community-based services. This means services you may be providing today could get reduced or cut in the near future.

Recommended Actions:

  • Due to the funding cuts, providers will need to watch their states very closely to see what changes are implemented to programs to eliminate the gap.

  • Be a part of the conversation.

  • If you see your state ramping up to make decisions that will negatively affect healthy outcomes, make your voice loud with your state legislators.

State-by-State Record Retention Requirements

Use Case: Be sure you’re retaining all required documents—because you could be subject to recoupment if you’re not compliant with state and federal retention rules.

Document, Document, Document!

Something as simple as a signature can cause major headaches for providers. Make sure you stay current with your state’s requirements on supporting documentation.

If you bill it, they will come.
